Windows Update information

Windows Upgrades and your Scoring PC need special consideration and attention...

If your main scoring PC has been on-line recently then it has may have downloaded a software upgrade secretly in the background.
If it has not completed the upgrade, it may decide to update during your NEXT GAME (it does not need to be online to do start the upgrade),
effectively slowing your system or locking it up.

If you have not had this happen yet, then we highly recommend you carry out a deliberate update at least once a year.

How do I update my scoring PC?
Connect the PC to the internet;
if you don’t have internet available at the Club we would recommend to take the PC home (or work).
DO NOT Hot Spot from your phone; updates require a lot of costly data.

1. Go to Settings
2. Update & Security
3. Check for updates.
4. Carry out all updates available; you may be prompted to restart the PC during updates.
5. Once all updates are complete, restart your PC.
6. Repeat steps 1-3 to check for additional updates.

*We recommend allowing plenty of time for the updates to run; they vary, but could take hours!

If your PC is cooped up safely in the timekeepers box and NEVER gets online then you need not worry about the above.

Can I turn off or pause auto-update by Windows?

Yes. If you are reasonably comfortable with Windows Settings then:
1. Go to Settings
2. Update & Security
3. Advanced Options
4. Stop or Pause any changeable setting that will prevent or delay updates. If you can set updates to only occur on a weekday, or at 2am, then do so.
We cannot offer click-by-click instructions here as these steps will change every time Windows has a new version (this is deliberate. We have to play their game!).
Good luck.
